Oh Oregon

To Oregon, you called them West ward
By river, wagon, mountain trail
To those who made the journey homeward
To those who died yet never failed
For what they found surpassed the stories
Of granite peaks and lakes of glass
Forming rivers wild and teaming
That flow to rich and fertile lands
Oh Oregon your native people
Chant beneath the ancient falls
I join with them, your pilgrim daughter
I'm home, I'm home
The red earth calls
The eagle soars from on the pine
His talons reach, the river winds
Along the bank, the doe and fawn
Graze among the berried vines
Oh Oregon, your native people
Chant beneath the ancient falls
I join with them, your pilgrim daughter
I'm home, I'm home
The red earth calls
Oh Oregon you were there future
And still today, you shine as ours
From miles of vines, to Portland's skyline
God's bounties rich, transcending time
Oh Oregon, you hold such promise
We chant beneath the ancient falls
We sing to you, your sons and daughters
We're home, we're home
The Red Earth Calls
We're home, we're home
The red earth calls.

I Love Oregon

Written by Christina Duane
You ask me if I miss the forest ferns and pine
Baking pies from berries that I picked out on the vine
The smell of fresh fish frying that we caught in the back creek
It's hard to say how much I do in words that I can speak
I love Oregon
Mountains that touch the sun
Rivers and valleys, forests and streams
A place most people live only in their dreams
You ask me if I miss the pear blossoms in bloom
Gentle rain a falling, sunshine streaming through
The rainbow on the meadow where the sheep are grazing free
Thoughts of these will always be a living part of me
I love Oregon
Mountains that touch the sun
Rivers and valleys, forests and streams
A place most people live only in their dreams
The things I miss the most aren't summers on the Rogue
Or riding horses across the mountain side
But it's singing praises to the Lord in the cabin on the hill
With the precious friends we had to leave behind
I love Oregon
Mountains that touch the sun
Rivers and valleys, forests and streams
A place most people live only in their dreams

Manic days and mystic nights
Beckon you and I to come
Come ride the Northern highway lights
And fly away on 101
LA's got the heat turned high
We chase these dreams and watch them die
And if I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take
Take me, out on the run
On Highway 101
We'll watch the sun fall
On Highway 101
The blue pacific sprays the shore
Of cryptic cliffs and ancient pine
And sleepy towns they bid us come
They weave a fern laced road through time
And Harmony's not hard to find
It's named for one small Northern town
Where glass is blown in an old dark barn
While Jimmy whines his pearl guitar
Take me, out on the run
On Hwy 101
The Western Sun Falls
On Hwy 101
Wine tastes better from an old oak cask
Life looks better when you just step back
So won't you take me?
Out on the run on Hwy 101
We'll watch the sun fall on Hwy 101
Take me, I want to run, where the Western sun falls
On Hwy 101, oh won't you take me

Gentle smiling vagabond
Carry me through wind and song
Through the hills of sage and brush
On hoof and wings and clouds of dust
Top Moon Trader, see him fly
Golden girl you'll see in time
You'll remember him this way
When youth and flowers fade away
Beneath the California sky
Top Moon Trader picks up stride
The sun sinks slowly to the sea
And hides behind a golden tide
Top Moon Trader, see him fly
Golden Girl you'll see in time
You'll remember him this way
When youth and flowers fade away
He waits for you to ride him on a trade wind
He wonders what has taken you so long
You think of him less often then you used to
Fast friends and shiny cars await you
They'll take you fast and far away
Top Moon Trader, Golden Girl you'll see in time
You'll remember him this way
When youth and flowers fade away
You'll remember him this way
When in your mind you ride away
In your mind you ride away
Gentle smiling vagabond
Carry me through wind and song

Backroads

Written by Christina Duane
I've traveled on the Backroads
Where simple is the language spoken
Deeply from the heart and the mind
I've seen such vivid beauty
That light in someone's eyes
Who would not leave their values behind
From the Applegate Valley
To the heartland rich and gold
Where the bonds will not be broken
Nor hearts be bought and sold
If you want to see life
Take the Backroads
If you wish to be changed deep inside
In this world so vast, there are few things that will last
You will find them on the Backroads of your life
Of all the world's pleasures that I have come to know
The things in life that money can buy
It's the loved ones that I'll treasure
Through the famine and the feast
But there's sorrow in saying goodbye
To the Applegate Valley, to the heartland rich and gold
Where the bonds will not be broken
Nor hearts be bought and sold
If you want to see life
Take the Backroads
If you wish to be changed deep inside
In this world so vast, there are few things that will last
You will find them on the Backroads of Your Life

And so I returned to Oregon,
just as I always knew I would. It was a promise spoken into my heart years
ago as I stood at the bottom of the Siskiyou Mountains in tears about
to leave my newly adopted home. And it seemed to take a lifetime to find
my way home but yet it is as if I never left. As if the Oregon wind that
whispers through the pine, the granite trails that call my name, and the
rivers that sooth a weary soul, have remembered me as I have remembered
them.
